Description
The Kem Turtleneck is a jumper by Baserange, knitted with a turtleneck collar. It comes in black camel melange. It is made from 95% recycled cashmere and 5% wool. Recycled cashmere is fibre reclaimed from existing cashmere material and reprocessed into new yarn. Baserange's recycled cashmere is made from waste picked by hand and graded by quality, colour and fibre content before spinning. This waste comes from cashmere spinners and weavers and from drop-off points where worn cashmere garments are gathered. Baserange explains that its sorters mix the already-dyed scraps during spinning to reach each colour, so the dyeing stage is not repeated. Baserange's recycled cashmere carries GRS and Oeko-Tex certification.Baserange gives environmental reasons for favouring recycled cashmere. According to the brand, it lowers the methane released by goats and the water pollution caused when cashmere is washed, and its production needs less water, energy and dye than that of virgin cashmere.Baserange recommends hand washing the jumper in cool water with an enzyme-free, pH-neutral detergent and drying it flat, since cashmere can stretch on a hanger. The brand also advises storing knitwear folded, with cedar wood or lavender nearby to keep moths away.
