Description
The piece is built from yarns that have completed their role in the apparel industry. End-of-line yarns are gathered from across Japan and held at a warehouse in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, where many are later redirected to industrial applications. For this garment, the brand visited the warehouse directly and selected yarns from the accumulated stock. Yarns of varying counts, colors, and fiber compositions are drawn together as found and knitted simultaneously at a factory in Wakayama Prefecture. The irregular patterns that result are a natural consequence of the process, not a designed effect. The contrasting sections at the cuffs and hem are the lead-in portions formed at the start of the knitting process. These are typically cut away and discarded. Here they are left intact. They can be removed by unraveling the transparent synthetic thread that holds them in place. The choice is left to the wearer. Because the contrasting sections are made from yarns originally destined for disposal, their colors are not fixed. Colors will differ between samples and production pieces.
