ublished in October 2024 by Cairo Apartment in Tokyo as a first edition of 500 copies, The Pictures on My Wall is the first book by David M. Skoudy, the Spanish artist who co-founded Paris Image Unlimited with Tea Sirbiladze. The book gathers one hundred black-and-white images selected from Skoudy's personal archive, organised around a single theme: alternative menswear. Skoudy's editorial principle is that everything in the book shares a quality of unselfconscious dress. Named and unnamed figures, photographed in ordinary situations, wearing what they actually wear. One of the plates is a 2002 Kevin Davies photograph of Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach, and Geordie Greig at the Cock Tavern in London. Most of the others sit closer to anonymity. A foreword by writer Christopher Andrews opens the book. One hundred duotone plates follow, printed by SunM Color in Kyoto, the Japanese fine-art printer responsible for some of the most carefully produced photobooks of the last decade. Paperbound hardcover, 112 pages, 18.2 by 25.5 cm. Dust jacket with foiled typography on the front cover and spine. Red and yellow headband. The international launch ran across late 2024 and early 2025: Dover Street Market Ginza in Tokyo (October), Librairie Yvon Lambert in Paris (November), María Goya in Madrid and Terranova in Barcelona (December), Carmen in Amsterdam (February 2025), and Tenderbooks in London (March 2025). The book sold through the first edition across these stops. The book sits at the centre of the Paris Image Unlimited curation MIG is presenting, since Skoudy is the curator behind the entire thirty-three-title selection. A reference for anyone interested in how a contemporary archive of menswear imagery gets built and edited from inside the picture trade itself.
